Sense of opposites for Aries: the decision maker. First stage of the Sense of opposites, polarized by the Excitation strength and quickness: one takes sides without hesitation nor subtleties, one is bluntly for or against, up to manichaeism. Brutal frankness, unwillingness to compromise, “he who is not with me is against me”. Since choices are quick, instinctive, thoughtless, adaptation might require calling these into question. In this case, complete turnarounds: what used to be adored is fought with equal violence.
Sense of opposites for Virgo: the purist. The Inhibition strength allows a clear perception of the boundaries between oneself and the others: one doesn’t intermingle, one is fussy, one perceives precisely the practical incompatibilities, the unchanging antagonisms. One defines uninfringable limits between oneself and the outside world, good and evil, what’s allowed and what’s forbidden, that coexist without interpenetrating: classifications, segregationism, purism. One protects one’s personal integrity against any external influence; to this end one can possibly, and deliberately, wear a mask opposed to one’s genuine nature.
Sense of opposites for Libra: the arbiter. Opposites are associated: black-and-white choices are no longer an option. One compares antagonist elements, analyses their connections and interactions, weighs the pros and cons, strives to make non-exclusive choices. The element that was not chosen is necessary complementary, is a partner to be respected. Hence a relative indecision: the perception of antagonisms and the sensitivity to divergences is associated to a refusal of any segregation. Moderate decisions, balanced choices are factors for twinges, for dilemmas that enhance thinking: the dread of misalliance or the desire not to make mistakes subserve a careful consideration.
Sense of opposites for Pisces: the invisible choice. Without really knowing exactly what one wants, one is able to perfectly, systematically and patiently eliminate, refuse and boycott what one doesn’t want. One postpones one’s response to opposing options. Until things settle out quietly and the way one must choose appears at the end of this decantation, one prefers edging one’s way between antagonisms, escaping too clear-cut dialectics, straddling the fence so as not to be trapped into simplistic dualisms. One wears out one’s adversaries by not responding. One lives in a static world where opposites are ever more equal, identical, yet different: there is a strong temptation trying to find a “third way” in order to transcend false oppositions.
Egalitarian phase for Aries: the all-for-nothing. A monochrome aggressivity incites to fight everything altogether: everything is rejected and tarred with the same brush. Visceral hostility against “Tweedledums and Tweedledees”. Everyone is wrong, friends as well as enemies. Good is not better than evil. Narrow-minded refusals, mind deafness, rigid personal philosophy that mustn’t be questioned by anyone. The perception of antagonisms, once shifted to abstraction, amounts to a “me against the whole world”.
Egalitarian phase-clash of opposites for Virgo: the allergic. Why “clash of opposites”? Because diurnal and nocturnal durations are heading ever closer to equalization. An extreme sensitivity to absolute contrasts, experienced in a terrible way, follows therefrom for the unadapted Virginian: paralyzing dilemmas, irresolvable conflicts between desire and duty, what’s lawful and unlawful, the self and the other. As for the Egalitarian phase, it makes the Virginian even more systematically fearful, distrustful, anxious, whatever the attitude of his like is. Depending on the situation, this can induce a psychasthenic self-protective withdrawal, or more actively, an intolerance, an allergy to the Other, to all the others, a sectarianism: one doesn’t intermingle with anybody, not even one’s closest friends.
Egalitarian phase for Libra: the leveler. Associativity evens out: one refuses to choose, one wants to be on good terms with everyone, one flirts with one’s enemies, one associates indiscriminately with all environments without picking sides. Possible non-violence turns into inconsistency. Whatever the circumstances are, one plays it open-minded: compromises. Corners are systematically cut. At worst, one plays the game well with the same contempt or the same indifference towards allies or adversaries. The heart of hearts and the social environment are evened out: one is worth what one’s environment or time is worth; one spends one’s time being fashionable in disregard of any authenticity.
Egalitarian phase-clash of opposites for Pisces: the nothing-at-all. Everything is equivalent, equal, indifferent. One doesn’t mind anything either way. The world is flat, seamless, everything is just motionless order or disorder, absolute calm, infinite serenity. Hence an ultimate indifference, at best close to nirvana, at worst revealing of an absolute nihilism: passive non-choice ends up in being nothing in the whole, everything in the nothingness, and nothing at all. One is peacefully waiting until it makes, breaks or bores, or until the clash of opposites shatters all the good or bad reasons one has or believes having to choose one’s side, one’s way, one’s destiny.
