The interpretation examples that we are suggesting are very far from being exhaustive: they only show and outline a general frame describing the issues of the planetary family. They should therefore not be taken literally. Each being brings indeed its own responses, more or less original, to the questions raised by a planetary family. There is no magic formula. Through using the R.E.T. and of the Theory of Ages and combining logic, observation and imagination, you will be able to develop a thousand other possible meanings, a thousand other variations on the same theme.
The real of Man and of the rest in all its states and stages, in its impeccable and implacable hierarchization-organization: known, perceived and inconceivable, imperceptible. The real is made of centers, symmetries and relationships, of immediate, relative or distant proximities. The reality of our speeches, experiences and perplexities, that of our words, actions and ulterior motives. The real made up of the proven known, of the knowable that experience will give birth to and of the unknown that will forever remain hidden from us. The reality of our certainties, our actions and our doubts. The one where we orient ourselves thanks to our plans (‘R’), or against which one fights because of its reliefs (‘E’), and which engulfs us in its mysterious densities (‘T’).
Positive formula (‘P’ ou “big P” or “extensive P”): Quest for absolute esteem or public recognition while being a man of the field and remaining authentically yourself. Wanting to be at the same time the King that we admire, the Warrior whose experience and combativeness we see and the sorcerer whose occult powers we calculate. Have no illusions about any level of power while wanting to exercise them all: representative through the art of words and behavior-models, existing through a taste for struggles and confrontations, transcending through a sense of metaphysics and values invisible. Be brittle and abrupt when moving from talk to action and from action to deep lucidity. Surprise with its sudden leaps and permutations between assertive models, down-to-earth realism and metaphysical intuitions.
Negative formula (“non-p” or lack of intensive power): lack or rejection of homogeneity, of undifferentiated globality. Quietude and harmony are broken down. Hence the excesses of the ‘P’: living in a permanent rough overhang. Attitudes, behaviors and behaviors that are discordant, clashing and grating when it comes to asserting oneself as a being of convictions, action or distance. Not knowing how to grease the wheels, nor deciding opportunely when to say, act or contemplate silently.
Sun, Mars and Pluto are the three planetary functions in negative feedback: each of them ensures the maintenance, the self-preservation of the level of reality that it represents. With the solar function (‘rR’), we do not leave the Representation: the images refer to the images, the words to the words, the appearances to the appearances, the unique is maintained; with the marsian function, we do not leave Existence (‘eE’): the facts, the phenomena, the lived experiences, the tested, the felt refer only to themselves and do not lead to anything other than them themselves; Finally, with the plutonian function (‘tT’), we are witnessing the maintenance and self-preservation of Transcendence: plurality, complexity, the invisible, the unspeakable, the mystery are repeated indefinitely, without anything transpiring or not. escapes.
The main function of power, whatever it is, is to stay in place and to preserve itself at all costs and whatever the circumstances. It is therefore a process of negative feedback: power commands, and wants to perpetuate its function of command. It is in its deep nature, and that is why the planetary trio Sun-Mars-Pluto is called, in the R.E.T system, the trio of Extensive power (‘P’). Many thinkers have noticed that human societies are organized according to three distinct levels of power. The historian Georges Dumézil (1898–1986), for example, highlighted the respective roles played, in traditional societies, by the King (visible, representative and unifying power), the Warrior (tangible, concrete power governing associations-confrontations) and the Wizard (invisible, insidious and subtle power of the priest-magician who holds the secrets of the universe).
This traditional triad is easily transposable to our modern world: the “King” then becomes the State, guarantor of the maintenance of the unity of the community by its authoritarian and arbitrary power of persuasion-deterrence; the “Warrior” becomes the economic actor, guarantor of the maintenance of the management-distribution of material resources; finally, the “Wizard” becomes the scientist, guarantor of the maintenance of the plurality of hypotheses which makes it possible to perpetuate fundamental research and the incessant questioning of the still unknown structures of the universe. Each of the three has the specific attributes of his power: the Sun-King punishes (censures, prohibitions) or reward (medals, honours), Mars-Warrior shares or fights, Pluto-Sorcerer blesses (invisible and intangible rewards) or curses (punishments just as visible and impalpable).
These three powers do not always agree with each other, far from it: the State-King often takes a dim view of the freedom of action granted to the Warriors-economic actors and the insidious freedom of in question of its standards inherent in the activities of the Sorcerer-priest-scientist; Warriors-economic actors often find the authoritarian tutelage imposed by the State-King burdensome, and the problems posed by the Sorcerer-priest-scientist unnecessarily metaphysical; the latter is often in a very critical position vis-à-vis the normative immobility of the King-State and the short-sighted material management imperatives of the Warrior-economic actor. And yet, these three complementary powers, which each jealously preserve their elective domain, coexist, and their complementarity-conflictuality is essential to the dynamic functioning of any community.
This trio of Power also exists in each of us. Each individual is both a “King” convinced that he is the center of the world, and who intends to maintain and preserve his status as a unique and inalienable individuality, a “Warrior” which struggles for its concrete survival through its exchanges with the outside world, and a “Wizard” sensitive to the unfathomable mystery of the soul of being-in-the-world.
An individuality strongly marked by Sun-Mars-Pluto has at the highest point the need and the taste of Power for Power. Solar-representative, it wants to maintain itself as an authoritarian and attractive center, affirms and dictates its law, imposes its point of view and intends to be a reference, a unique, recognized and admirable model; Marsian-existing, his combative realism also requires him to be concretely effective, to get his hands dirty, to build something solid, something tangible; Plutonian-transcendent finally, he is far from being indifferent to the mysteries of the invisible, to what happens behind the scenes, to the power that comes from knowing what others ignore or pretend to ignore. The unity of behavior of such an individual is far from being simple, obvious, easy: how not to be sometimes obliged to derogate from his sacrosanct guiding principles (Sun) when he wants to exercise the fullness of his means of action (March)? Too much Sun, and the desired end systematically justifies the means used (Mars), even if they are in flagrant contradiction with the stated principles (Sun). Too much Mars, and concrete efficiency forgets the principles that inspired it: credibility (Sun) then inevitably suffers. Too many strong and simple certainties (Sun) and one arbitrarily evacuates the complex, deep and disturbing questions likely to cast a shadow (Pluto) on one’s ideals (Sun), and vice versa: too many deep questionings (Pluto) risk to lose all points of reference (Sun) and the taste for direct action (Mars), etc. This is frequently the case when Sun, Mars and Pluto are linked by dissonant mutual aspects… and these dissonances are poorly experienced and integrated by the individual.
If Sun, Mars and Pluto are mutually connected by Aspects consonants, the collaboration between the three Powers is made easier: solar, Marsian and plutonian, the individual knows in turn and in principle when it is necessary, to punish and to reward according to the attachment of others to the authority of his person, to share or to fight according to whether he is dealing with companions or adversaries, to bless or to curse (that is to say, to manifest an invisible power by using subliminal suggestion, by insidiously manipulating consciousnesses and unconsciousnesses of others). He will then be criticized for playing on all fronts, for wanting the butter, the money for the butter and the creamer with it. This kind of criticism will leave him generally indifferent: in his eyes, the only thing that counts is the skill and efficiency that must be demonstrated to establish and extend (extensive power) his power at all levels of reality. Thus he will be in turn affirmative and authoritarian, active and combative, critical and questioning, without fearing those contradictions which form the astral framework of his personality.
The trio of Extensive Power, when it is dominant and consonant, makes individualities stiff, rough, whole, hard, square, enemies of concessions (which quickly pass for treason in their eyes) and procrastination. For them, everyone and everything must be in its exact place, the one assigned to it by its specific gifts and skills: such is the price to pay for a peaceful and dynamic coexistence to be established. At the slightest breach of this imperious requirement, they then become policemen, vigilantes, rectifiers of wrongs, rippers of balloons; they do not communicate (positive feedback, this is, in a broad sense, the role of the other planetary functions, with the exception of the Moon), they command (negative feedback) and maintain themselves in a state of command on all levels: social (Sun), vital (Mars) and metaphysical (Pluto).

Les significations planétaires
par
620 pages.
